Bodies and Bowls - receiving vessels for the gift of communion with all of life.
Through both the alchemical process of crafting and the development of our sensory awareness with both sound, place and space we can extend our ‘listening’, ie perceiving, sensing and awareness - attunement tools that open our lives to living more consciously in relation to all of life. Our bodies have ever finer capacities to come into a resonant frequency with the earth when we are open and willing to recognise our own innate relationship with the flow of the earth energies and elemental forces. It is from this openness and receptivity that we can each become vibrationally and energetically aware in our daily lives. When we include our bodies as part of the receiving system for the wider universe we come into the real possibility of communion - a vibrating, pulsing, organ of immense consciousness and awareness. |
Crafting a Singing Bowl
Working predominantly in brass and bronze, you will scribe and cut the metal, working closely with the fire and all of the elements to sink and shape a finely crafted sounding vessel; an instrument that will outlast many generations to come. Instruction in the use of the tools and one to one support will be available throughout the workshop.
You will be facilitated in your individual alchemical process of transformation and inviting the new being that comes into presence and form through the crafting and forging of your instrument. We will invite you to come into resonance with your future self ... in communion with the earth and the wider cosmos.
Bringing consciousness to how we perceive and experience sound, and our developing sensitivity to resonance, will underpin all that we do.
There are no pre-requisites. Contact us if in any doubt about skill set or fitness.
The workshop is open to all ages from 14 and up.
The Facilitating Team |
Gabriella Kapfer has been co-facilitating workshops and retreats as well as transformational journeys and pilgrimages for many years – working with sound, nature and craft. She is a skilled craftswoman and deeply intuitive sound alchemist with many years experience. She learnt the craft of metal smithing / instrument making with master coppersmith and blacksmith Ton Akkermans since 2004 and started offering workshops of singing-bowl making in 2011. She is particularly skilled at facilitating the alchemical process with metal, fire, the elements and the vibration of conscious heartfelt connection as a way to consciously invite, birth and/or transform energies in our personal lives and in the world. As such the making of the singing bowls becomes a tool of creation way beyond the instrument itself. Through the embodiment of the craft, sound as vibration becomes physical form. See Gabriella's website for more information http://peace-trails.com/ “Working with Gabriella, Heather and Quentin has been the deepest and most profound experience of transformation for me. Never before have I felt so safe in a workshop. My process with the bowl was tough at times, and always - like a miracle - one of these beautiful enablers showed up to be with me. Sometimes to support me in the handling of the tools, sometimes to listen, sometimes to just be in silence together for a while, sometimes to ask this one question that allowed me to move on… three souls who can hold the rim of the circle in wondrous ways…a healing sanctuary … a sacred vessel.” M. S. Brussels. Belgium Heather Smith Cowen has a wide reaching background in facilitation. As a musician, cook and energy healer, she focalises social, community and creative circles. Inspired by the innate magic and oft unseen aspects that live in each person, Heather empowers others to widen their lens and perceive beyond the evidence based surface. She gives people access to more of themselves through sound, music and creative mentoring, body processes, intuitive and well developed skills of deep listening as well as energetic healing work and one to one facilitation. Heather has been hosting and co-facilitating the work of the singing bowl crafting since having first met Ton Akkermans in 2010. It brings together all of her gifts. It is a work she thrives on - the act of engagement with a physical process and the continual invitation to greater consciousness. Many have described her as a bowl whisperer. See Heather's website www.fieldsofbeing.com for more of her work. |
I was at your presentation yesterday and I can honestly say that it was one of the most sublime experiences of my life. The sounds you created transported me to a place of harmony exquisite beyond words, beyond mind, beyond emotions, beyond ... It felt like 'home' in the very greatest sense and is how I would like to feel while I die and pass to the next stage of life. V. Jacks. Scotland
It’s my huge delight to team up with Gabriella and Heather again to co-create these workshops on Mull. We met at the forge of our mutual teacher and mentor, Ton Akkermanns, and have since moved into a spiralling dance of many other aspects of being, both individually and in tandem. Bowl-making takes me through a doorway to mystical, alchemical transformation that I would not encounter in the mundane activity of living. There has been, and is, fulfilment, delight, wonderment, horror, outrage, power, silence, breath, stillness and sound that awakens me beyond what I have currently known and lived. It allows my body a form of play with the metals that is both elegant in its simplicity and astonishing in its strength and ease. Each time I co-create a new instrument with the being that it will become, I am taken beyond my known boundaries to the world of vibrations and energy that is so familiar and where words in our current language are often inadequate. I am always changed as a result of forging not just a sound instrument, but also myself. Much of my previous training as a musician and organiser of people and projects, laid the foundation for the capacity to ‘read’ and translate the language of energy. The communication skill of channelling has been pivotal in developing my awareness of the nuances of vibration, which captivate and entice me to ask more questions, invite me to surrender old stories of who I am not and, inexorably, to choose consciousness. The communion of body and being and cosmos become home in a way that I have yearned for and can now be-come. You can find out more about me here www.light-horizon.com |
